Facundo L. Bacardi

Facundo L. Bacardi is a fifth-generation family member and the great-great grandson of Don Facundo Bacardí Massó. Bacardi took a round-about way of involvement in the family business, receiving a B.S.B.A. from American University and a Juris Doctorate from Emory University Law School before forming his own company. He is currently the managing director of Apache Capital LLC, an investment firm in Coral Gables, Florida. In 1993, he joined Bacardi as a director and stepped into the role of chairman in 2005.

Under Bacardi’s leadership, Bacardi Limited continues to grow and diversify. Bacardi played a major role in the acquisition of GREY GOOSE vodka, the world’s number one super premium vodka, from Sidney Frank in 2004. Subsequent acquisitions include a stake in ultra-premium luxury spirit LEBLON cachaça in 2007 and a minority stake in the parent company of Patrón tequila in 2008. The acquisition of ST-GERMAIN elderflower liqueur added one of the fastest- growing liqueurs in the United States to Bacardi’s portfolio.

Bacardi Limited recently opened the family’s exceptional private reserves and issued a 12,000-bottle limited release of high-end sipping rums in 2013 called the FACUNDO Rum Collection. The four premium blends include Neo, a velvety rum for sipping or mixing; Eximo, a pre-aged blend of light and heavy rums with hints of walnuts and tropical fruits; Exquisito, a blend aged up to 23 years and finished in a sherry cask; and Paraiso, a blend of older rums with rich hints of coffee beans and roasted nuts. The collection was issued in honor of founder Don Facundo Bacardí Massó and each illustrates master blending and aging techniques.

Facundo L. Bacardi’s tenure has overseen an era of social responsibility. In 2008, Bacardi Limited kicked off “Champions Drink Responsibly” with seven-time Formula One racing champion Michael Schumacher as the company’s ambassador. The campaign encourages consumers to pace themselves, have a plan to get home safely, and never drink and drive. Rafael Nadal, winner of nine Grand Slam championships, became the face of “Champions Drink Responsibly” in 2011 and created huge response from consumers via social media. The newest contributor to the campaign is Australian Joel Parkinson, world champion surfer.

The only major spirits company with all its facilities certified according to the highest global standards of quality, environment, health and safety, Bacardi Limited was awarded “triple crown” certification in 2009 under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. The following year, the company unveiled a wind turbine installation at its Puerto Rico distillery to harness wind energy for power. In 2014, Bacardi launched the initiative Good Spirited: Building a Sustainable Future, with a focus on sustainable sugarcane sourcing, water reduction, and packaging and operational efficiencies.

Facundo L. Bacardi’s long-term vision for the company is for it to grow both organically and through additional acquisitions. The company’s strong commitment to excellence, passion and innovation prescribe a bright future in the worldwide spirits market.
